Hi everyone, I'm Heather, (she/her) also known as the NewFound Explorer. The name of my Instagram and blog comes directly from where I draw the most inspiration from, my new home province, Newfoundland & Labrador. It was a short trip here that changed my and my husband's life for the better. With help from the rocky terrain and the salty North Atlantic air, we are slowly shedding our Ontario fast-paced lifestyle while embracing the wilderness and beauty that surrounds us.

Professionally I work full-time in communications, which I have had the pleasure of doing for over 8 years. I come from a Journalism education but now I try to infuse my personality in my writing here.

I hope that my home DIYs, hiking and adventures in between can offer you an escape and inspiration so that you can become a New Found Explorer as well.

Activism

I am dedicating the section below to provide valuable resources, tools for donating and available petitions to continue to fight for those who have faced oppression and hate in all forms in Canada and globally. I was always aware of the injustices others faced but I am trying to be a more active person in the fight to recognize and abolish systematic racism towards Black, Brown and Asian people, while also standing firmly and shouting loudly about the genocide of Indigenous women, children and two-spirited people in Canada, and fight against all hatred towards the 2SLGBTQ+ community, Muslims and people of the Jewish faith.

I currently eat, live and play on the ancestral homelands of the Beothuk but I also respect the diverse histories and cultures of the Mi’kmaq, Innu, Inuit and Southern Inuit of this province. The colonization of this land by European settlers incited a mass murder of the Beothuk people and the forcible removal and "relocation" of the Innu and Inuit. If there are resources that are not listed that you would like me to include please feel free to DM me on Instagram and let me know.
